Boy Scouts of America

BSA Troop 600

How it started?

In 2008, Guru Nanak Khalsa School from Sikh Gurdwara San Jose, CA determined to support a Boy Scout program. The concept was put forward by Bill Blackenford, a scout leader from Stockton, CA. The objective was to develop a boy scout initiative that would follow the program devised by Boy Scouts of America with the Sikh religious belief system embedded seamlessly. Troop 600 was initiated in December 2008 under guidance from Eric Tarbox, COO, BSA Santa Clara County and Ken Schott, Coyote Creek District. This initiative is ably supported by Gary Varano, Executive, Boy Scouts, Coyote Creek District, San Jose, CA.

What is Sikh Scouts?

The Sikhs Scouts provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. Through SEWA or service projects and Good Turns, Scouts can discover their place in the community.  The values of scouting are similar to the core values of Sikhism and Sikh Scouts endeavor to be the bridge.

Boy Scout Law

Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent.
